The Sudan Hornets’ varsity football team, shutout the Smyer Bobcats last Friday, 28-0, for their first district win of the year.
With the victory, the Hornets improve to 3-5 overall, 1-1 in district play.The Hornets totaled 248 yards of total offense, including 37 passing yards and 211 rushing yards.Sophomore quarterback, Christian Montes, scored the games’ opening points on a one-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. The PAT by Chris Schovajsa was good, making the score, 7-0 Hornets.
The score stood going into the locker room at halftime, but in the third quarter, senior, Austin Conley returned a kickoff 86 yards for a touchdown. The PAT by Schovajsa was good, making the score, 14-0.
Austin Conley scored later in the third quarter on a three-yard run and the PAT by Schovajsa was good, putting Sudan up, 21-0.
In the fourth quarter, Montes rushed for a 43-yard touchdown as Sudan shutout the Bobcats, 28-0.
Montes finished the game two-of-three passing for 37 yards and added 10 carries for 53 yards and two touchdowns.
Austin Conley, led the rushing attack with 12 carries for 93 yards and one touchdown, while Chris Schovajsa added four carries for 46 yards and Brett Wilson added four carries for 14 yards.
Ruben Rodriguez had one catch for 37 yards.
Defensively, Alex Conley led the Hornets with five tackles and one sack, while Wilson recorded four tackles and Austin Conley added three tackles. Abel Tinajero finished with two tackles.
Montes recovered a fumble and Parker Battin pulled down an interception.
This week, the Hornets travel to Springlake-Earth to take on the Wolverines.
Kick-off is slated for 7:30 p.m.
