The Sudan Hornets fell short in their regular season finale on Friday against the Bovina Mustangs, 47-19.
With the loss the Hornets finish the regular season 3-6 overall, 2-2 in district play.
Bovina jumped out to an early lead in the first quarter as JJ Marrufo caught a 30-yard touchdown pass from David Lara for the games opening score. Bryan De LaTorre’s PAT was good, making the score, 7-0.
Marco Sanchez followed it up with a 26-yard rushing touchdown, pushing their lead out to, 13-0.
Sudan would get on the board just before the end of the first quarter, as sophomore quarterback, Christian Montes, rushed for a 13-yard touchdown. The PAT by Chris Schovajsa was good, trimming the lead to, 13-7.
Bovina scored the lone touchdown of the second quarter as Sanchez carried it into the end zone from five-yards out, making the score, 21-7, going into the locker room at halftime.
Bovina kept things rolling to open the second half as Sanchez found the end zone for the third time on the day; this time from 12-yards out, making the score, 27-7.
Sudan would respond as senior running back, Austin Conley, punched it in from three-yards out, making the score, 27-13, after a failed two-point conversion try by Sudan.
Jadon Quintana would break free for a 73-yard touchdown run for Bovina, stretching their lead to, 33-13, heading into the fourth quarter.
Conley scored on a 33-yard touchdown run to open the final quarter of play, but Quintana hauled in a 63-yard touchdown pass from Lara and Edgar Olvera scored on a 13-yard run, making the final score, 47-19.
The Hornets totaled 377 yards of offense, including 71 passing yards and 306 rushing yards.
Montes finished the game three-of-11 passing for 71 yards and one interception. He also added 20 carries for 121 yards and one touchdown.
Conley led the team in rushing with 28 carries for 162 yards and two touchdowns, while Schovajsa added three carries for 18 yards.
Ruben Rodriguez caught two passes for 64 yards.
Defensively, Austin Conley led the team in tackles with seven, while Schovajsa, Alex Conley and Brett Wilson each tallied three tackles and Montes added two tackles.
Austin Conley also recorded an interception and a block in the contest, while Wilson recovered a fumble.
The Hornets will face the Seagraves Eagles in the first round of the playoffs on Friday at Lobo Stadium in Levelland.
Kick-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
