Bobcats beat eighth-grade Mules 38-21

The eighth-grade Mules jumped in front of the Dimmitt Bobcats Monday afternoon in the opening period. Dimmitt battled back in the final three periods to defeat the Mules 38-21.
Jeremiah Barron led the opening charge for the Mules by making two baskets and dropping in a trey. Jacob Reyes dropped in a pair of free throws to put the Mules in front 9-5 after one-quarter of play.
The Mules slowed down in the second period while the Bobcats came alive. Barron and Reyes made two free throws each. Dylan Watkins sank a short jumper for the Mules six points in the quarter. Dimmitt scored 13 points to take an 18-15 lead at the half.
The Mule defense held Dimmitt to just six points in the third period. Daniel Avila and Reyes chipped in a free throw each for the Mules only points.
Dimmitt led the Mules 24-17 after three quarters.
The Bobcats poured it on the Mules in the final period after some of the Mules had three and four fouls.
Barron made a pair of free throws, and Nathan Ferguson sank a jump shot.
The Mules traveled to Slaton to play the Tigers on Monday afternoon.
The Mules return home December 4 to host the Friona Braves.

Bobcats run over seventh-grade Mules 46-16

The seventh-grade Mules got off to a slow start Thursday in their district opener against the Dimmitt Bobcats. Dimmitt outscored the Mules 16-46.
Irvin Torres finally broke the scoring ice for the Mules with a basket with 1:27 remaining in the first period. Nic Reyes added a hoop to close out the Mules first period scoring. Dimmitt led 16-4 after one quarter.
The Mules were held scoreless in the second period while the Bobcats added ten points to lead the Mules 26-4 at the intermission.
The Mules did light up the scoreboard in the third quarter. Uriel Ramirez took a charge near the elbow to ignite the Mules. Torres drove the lane on back-to-back trips down the floor to score twice. Frankie Reyes took a pass from Elisar Cisneros to score on a give-and-go. F. Reyes scored a second hoop before the quarter ended. The Mules trailed 36-12 after three periods.
Judas Reyes and Torres scored the Mules final two hoops of the game.
Irvin Torres led the Mules in scoring with eight points. Frankie Reyes finished with four points. Judas Reyes and Nic Reyes chipped in two points each.
The Mules traveled to Slaton Monday afternoon and will return home December 4 to host the Friona Braves.

Seventh-grade Lady Mules start season strong

The seventh-grade Lady Mules are off to a fast start in the 2017 basketball season. They opened their season with a 32-9 drumming of the Littlefield Lady Cats. They fell just short to the Idalou Lady Cats 32-37. The Lady Mules scorched the Dimmitt Bobbies 44-12.
Aaliyah Sanchez led the charge against Littlefield with 12 points. Ashton Hardwick helped out with six points.
“This was a great first game for us,” said Lady Mule Coach Jalissa King. “We started off a little slow, but once we got past the jitters, the girls played an awesome game.”
The B-Team Lady Mules squeaked by Littlefield 16-14. Evelin Meza and Elle Phillips had four points each.
“These girls came out and played all the way to overtime. It was an exhilarating first game.”
Kylie Hernandez set the Lady Mule scoring pace with 16 points against Idalou. Raelee Garza and Aaliyah Sanchez made six points each.
“This was a good game for us,” continued Coach King. “Idalou always has a strong program and these girls hung in this game.”
The B-team Lady Mules fell to Idalou 15-7. Amri Melton led the Lady Mules with six points, and Ellie Phillips chipped in one point.
The Bobbies were no match for the Lady Mules. Nautica Mills and Raelee Garza scored 10 points each against Dimmitt. Kylie Hernandez finished with nine points, and Ashton Hardwick dropped in six points.
The B-team Lady Mules thumped the Bobbies 29-12. Ellie Phillips led the way for the Lady Mules with 12 points. Naomi Nunez finished with five points, and Gimena Ramirez added four points.
The Lady Mules host the Slaton Tigerettes Monday afternoon and will travel to Friona December 4 to play the Maidens.
