The Mules defeated Friona 38-18.
Joe Gutierrez stuck back an offensive rebound to put the Mules in front to stay early in the opening period. The Mules full-court press caused the Braves to give up the ball, and Gutierrez dropped the ball in the hoop.
Kurt Rodriguez sank an 18-foot jumper on an inbound play and seconds later put back an offensive rebound for a basket. Victor Velasquez drove the paint for a hoop before Gutierrez drove the left side for a layup. The Mules led 12-4 after one frame.
Cesar Enriquez dropped in a 3-pointer from the left wing. He added two more hoops before the half ended to extend the Mule lead to 19-9 at the intermission.
Enriquez drained his second trey of the game to open the third period. He scored on an inbound play from the left wing. Braden Shipman was fouled while shooting and made one charity toss. Gutierrez picked a Brave’s pocket at midcourt and drove for a layup.
Velasquez stuck back a rebound for a hoop just before Enriquez drove the lane for a basket. Matthew Fabela fed Velasquez on the blocks for a hoop. Shipman scored the final basket of the game with a jumper from the blocks.
Enriquez hit a pair of treys and led the Mules with 15 points. Gutierrez and Velasquez added eight points each. Rodriguez made all four of his points in the first quarter. Shipman finished with three points.
The Mules traveled to Shallowater to play the Mustangs Monday evening. The Mules will host the Portales Rams December 15 and host the Roosevelt Eagles December 18 before taking the Christmas break.
