Constructions, renovations begin, continue throughout city

The regular meeting of Muleshoe City Council was held Monday, Dec. 11, in Muleshoe City Hall. Unofficial minutes of the meeting follow:
Members present were Mayor Cliff Black, Mayor Pro Tem Colt Ellis, Council Member Gary Parker and Council Member Earl Behrends.
Others present were City Manager LeAnn Gallman; City Secretary Zanea Carpenter; Public Works Director Ramon Sanchez; Gil Rennels, Channel 6 News; City Attorney Slater Elza, Underwood Law Firm; Leonard Nail, Parkhill Smith & Cooper; and Matt Davis.
Minutes of the previous meeting were approved.
Parker moved and Ellis seconded a motion to adopt Ordinance O-503-1217 Amending Chapter 3 – Building Regulations of the Code of Ordinances. Motion carried.
Ellis moved and Behrends seconded a motion to approve Resolution R-734-1217 Authorizing Grant Administration Services for the 2018 CDBG Program. Motion carried.
Black moved and Ellis seconded a motion to approve Resolution R-735-1217 Authorizing Engineering Services for the 2018 CDBG Program. Motion carried.
Black moved and Parker seconded a motion to approve up to $30,000 of hotel/motel tax funds for the advertising and promotion of the 2018 Mule Days and Kickin Nights event. Motion carried.
Parker moved and Behrends seconded a motion to approve the increase in monthly dues for the Muleshoe Country Club. Motion carried.
Black moved and Ellis seconded a motion to receive the Nov. 30 financial statement. Motion carried.
Administrative reports included
* Bids will be opened for the ground storage tanks on Jan. 11, 2018. Council will consider awarding a bid for that construction at the January council meeting.
* Contractors will begin work soon on the new lift station. Equipment is being moved in.
* Work on the new hangar at the Muleshoe Municipal Airport continues.
* Proposals were received on the renovation of the apartment at the airport making it a pilot’s lounge. Construction on that project will begin soon. A courtesy car has been awarded to the city and will be placed at the airport in the near future.
* Building improvements at the Muleshoe Area Public Library have begun.
* The City Christmas Luncheon was scheduled for Wednesday, Dec. 13, at the City of Muleshoe Training Facility.
* The Chamber of Commerce Christmas Parade was scheduled for 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 16.
* The Chamber of Commerce “Shop the Shoe” concluded on Dec. 16. Everyone was encouraged to shop locally, not only during the Christmas season, but all year long.
Mayor and Council remarks included:
* Condolences were offered to Slater for the loss of his brother.
* Residents were encouraged to “Shop the Shoe,” enjoy the fall and remember the reason for the season.
