The JV Lady Mules stampeded over the Friona JV Squaws Friday evening 46-17. The Squaws were held scoreless in the first and third period as the Lady Mules piled up points.
Maddison Price dominated in the paint with two hoops in the opening frame. Citlalli Vargez pumped in two baskets, and Jordan Zapata turned a Friona turnover into points with a layup. The Lady Mules led 10-0 after the first eight minutes.
The Squaws woke up in the second period with 10 points.
Kayla Torres made three of four free throws in the second quarter. Price dropped in two baskets. Perla Vasquez, Valeri Toscano, and Zapata scored a hoop each. The Lady Mules led 23-10 at the half.
Vargez and Price made two hoops each in the third period. Kinsey Parker, Torres, and Anna Phillips added a basket apiece. The Lady Mules had extended their lead to 37-10.
Vargez led the charge for the Lady Mules in the final frame with a pair of baskets. Torres dropped in a hoop, and Joceline Ramirez chipped in a free throw.
Vargez and Price paced the Lady Mules with 12 points each. Torres dropped in seven points, and Zapata added four points. Vasquez, Parker, Toscano, and Phillips chipped in two points apiece.
The Lady Mules hosted the Shallowater Fillies Tuesday evening and will travel to Lubbock Roosevelt to play the Lady Eagles and complete their first round of district play.
