The seventh-grade Lady Mules defeated the Dimmitt Bobbies Monday evening to improve their season record to 10-3. The Lady Mules took command from the tip and bounced the Bobbies 43-7.
“We really worked hard running a new defense,” said Lady Mule coach, Jalissa King. “Raelee Garza pulled down six rebounds, and Kylie Hernandez added five assists and four steals.”
Araceli Diaz got the Lady Mules started with a hoop just 10 seconds into the contest. Before the first period ended, she added two more baskets. Kassie Kelley made a pair of short jumpers, and Aaliyah Sanchez drove to the hoop for a layup. Nautica Millis took a pass from Kendra Kelley to complete a fast break. The Lady Mules led Dimmitt 14-3.
The Lady Mule defense held the Bobbies to a single point. Ashton Hardwick scored with an assist from Terrah Dominguez. Hernandez dropped in a 10-foot jumper. Garza fed Diaz across the lane for an open shot. Dominguez finished a fast break and Ka. Kelley chipped in a free throw. The Lady Mules led 23-4 at the half.
The Lady Mule defense continued to stifle the Bobbies in the second half. Garza scored twice from the blocks, and Hernandez dropped in a pair of baskets. The Lady Mules led 31-6 with one period left to play.
Hernandez continued to have a hot hand in the final quarter and scored twice. Diaz also made two hoops as did Dominguez.
Diaz led the Lady Mules with 12 points, and Hernandez finished with 10 points. Dominguez dropped in six points and Ka. Kelley added five points. Garza had four points. Mills, Sanchez, and Hardwick chipped in two points each.
The seventh-grade B-team defeated Dimmitt 21-14. Evelin Meza led the Lady Mules with five points.
“We started the fourth quarter down by one,” continued Coach King. “Then we gave up four more points to start the final period. We began to press, and that turn the game around.”
The Lady Mules traveled to Slaton Monday to play the Tigerettes and will return home February 5 to close out the season with the Friona Maidens.
