The Mules played for pride Tuesday evening, and they understood the Texas State Playoffs were out of their reach. The Mules saved their best for the final quarter of the game. The Idalou Wildcats defeated the Mules 44-31.
Brady Martinez made a free throw for the Mules first points three minutes into the game. He sank a trey from the top of the key a minute-and-a-half later. He closed out the quarter with a layup. Israel Vasquez scored from near the baseline and dropped in a trey. The Mules trailed Idalou 17-11 after one period.
The second period did not go well for the Mules. Romeo Reyes made a charity toss two minutes into the second period. Jacob Kettner scored in the paints, and Luke Leal nailed a trey in the final minute of the first half. The Mules trailed 35-17 at the intermission.
Vasquez made all three of the Mules’ points in the third period. He made a free throw near the midpoint of the quarter. Vasquez scored in the paint as the third frame drew to a close. The Mules trailed the Wildcats 47-20 with eight minutes left to play.
Wyatt Parker was fouled while shooting and made one free throw 13 seconds into the final frame. Julian Astorga chipped in a charity toss. Vasquez drove to the hoop for a layup. He later added four free throws.
Jacob Barron tickled the twin from the arc two minutes into the final quarter.
Two minutes later he made a steal and drove to the hoop. Reyes nailed a trey from the corner. Martinez sank a 3-pointer.
Leal made three of four from the charity line. Jacob Kettner put back an offensive rebound to close out the Mule scoring. The Mules had scored 21 points in their final quarter of the season.
Vasquez paced the Mules with 14 points. Martinez added nine points, Leal finished with six points, and Barron added five points. Kettner and Reyes had four points each. Parker and Astorga chipped in one point each.
