JV track

The Sudan JV track teams competed in their first meet of the season this past weekend at the Roughneck Relays in Sundown.

The boys team finished eighth overall with 36 points, while the girls finished sixth overall with 16 points.

boys’ golf

The Sudan boys’ golf team finished as the runner-up to Lubbock Christian in the Denver City Tournament this past Tuesday.

The Hornets finished with a team sore of 367, finishing ahead of Denver City, Plains, Seagraves, Lazbuddie, Sundown and Bovina. Sudan just missed taking first place by six points, as Lubbock Christian finished with a score of 361.

Trenton Angeley shot an 86 to lead the team, while Call Morris shot an 89. Bode Box and Tracen Angeley each finished with a score of 96 and Isaiah Montes finished with a score of 111.

The boys team competed on Monday in Farwell and the girls will follow up in Farwell on Wednesday. Results were not available at press time.


The Sudan Tennis team competed in their first meet of the year at Levelland on Thursday.

“We had a very successful day and I believe that we improved during every match we played,” Head Coach Klark Ashmore said. “The kids competed hard through the cold weather in the morning and in the warm weather in the afternoon.”

They had five second-place finishers, two third-place finishers, and a consolation championships.

Anthony Cantu and Zoey Cantu finished second in the mixed doubles bracket, Kobe Rodriguez finished second in the singles bracket, Noah Baker and Call Morris finished second in a nail-biter of a championship in the boys doubles bracket.

Julie Juarez and Meilynn Gonzales finished second in a hard fought girls doubles championship, and Sierra Baker and Abel Tinajero finished second in the mixed doubles division. Mildred Medrano finished third in the girls singles bracket, and Josh Leal and Damon Boyd finished third in the boys doubles bracket.

Brianna Wallace and Marian Ordonez finished at the top of the consolation bracket.

“I am proud of everyone who competed at this tournament. Although we had a great showing at our first meet, we have a lot to work on. I am excited to work with these kids for the rest of the season,” Coach Ashmore said.
