The Lady Mule softball team was busy during Spring Break and played three games in three days. The Lady Mules defeated both Lubbock Estacado and Sanford-Fritch before losing to Brownfield.

The Lady Mules defense held the Estacado Lady Mats to just two runs seven hits. The Lady Mules scored 19 runs on 11 hits to end the game after five innings. Clarissa Rejino struck out seven Lady Mats and the Lady Mules committed just two errors.

Mia Reyna and Rejino shared pitching duties in Sanford-Fritch in a slugfest with the Lady Eagles. The Lady Eagles scored 14 runs on 14 hits while the Lady Mules pushed 17 runs across on 16 hits. Each team committed two errors.

The Lady Mules committed an error in the top of the seventh inning that gave up two runs and the game. The game was tied at 2-2 at the time. The Lady Mules lost 5-3.

Brownfield was held scoreless through two innings. Brianna Barron made back-to-back plays at second base to keep the first two Cubs off the bases. Emili Mora snow coned a line drive at shortstop to end the top of the first inning.

Rejino stabbed a groundball in the pitching circle and tossed to Melody Moran for the first out of the second inning. Mora scooped up a ground ball at short for the second out. Rejino managed to separate the yellow softball from the overcast sky to make the catch of a towering popup to end the top of the second inning with the score tied at 0-0.

Dellany Martinez drew a walk to lead off the bottom of the second inning. Moran lined a groundball single by the shortstop to put runners at first and second base. Martinez and Moran pulled off a double steal to advance to third and second bases. Reyna sent a fly ball to deep right field to score Martinez with the sacrifice fly. The Lady Mules led 1-0 after one inning.

A Cub double and single scored on back-to-back sacrifice fly balls to centerfield that Martinez caught. Mora scooped up a ground ball and tossed to Barron for the force at second for the final out. Brownfield led after two and a half innings 2-1.

The Lady Mules tied the game in the bottom of the third inning. Martinez was branded in the back with a fastball and went to first base. Moran ripped a triple to left center to score Martinez.

Rejino walked the first batter she faced in the fourth inning. Martinez chased down a fly ball in right center. The Cub runner made an error and did not tag up after the catch before going to second base. The Lady Mules appealed to first base to complete the double play. Moran snagged a line drive at first base for the third out. The score remained tied at 2-2.

Brownfield scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning.

Barron ripped a triple to the fence in left-center to lead off the bottom of the seventh inning. Mora scored Barron with a sacrifice ground ball to second base.

The Lady Mules will host the Idalou Lady Cats Tuesday, March 20, to open district play. The Lady Mules will travel to Littlefield on Saturday to play the second team of Lady Cats at noon.
