The Muleshoe Mule baseball team hosted the Dimmitt Bobcats Saturday.

 

The Bobcats did not get a hit until the top of the fifth inning. The Mules took the lead for good in the bottom of the seventh inning and defeated the Bobcats 11-6.

The Bobcats converted a pair of walks and a passed ball in the top of the second inning into a single run. Dimmitt scored its second run with a single and a double.

The Mules scored two runs in the bottom of the third inning to take a short-lived lead. Jimmy Villa walked to lead off the bottom of the fifth inning for the Mules. Villa went to second on a single by Jacob DeLeon.

Villa stole third and stole home for the Mule’s first run. J. DeLeon advanced to second and third on Villa’s steals and scored on an error by the third baseman. The Mules led 2-1 after three innings.

The Bobcats tied the game in the top of the fifth inning with a single and a double.

The Mules exploded on the Bobcats in the bottom of the fifth inning with five runs. Matt DeLeon sent a one-out single to right field. He stole second base on the first pitch to J. DeLeon. Ethan Villa sent a ground ball double by the shortstop to score M. DeLeon.

JoJo Rejino hit a line drive single to left field to score E. Villa. Riley Kettner took the count full before walking, and he went to second on a passed ball. An error by the shortstop on Kelan Florez’ ground ball allowed Kettner to score. Florez went to second on a passed ball and scored on a single to left centerfield by Leonel Camarena. The Mules led 7-2 after five innings.

A fly ball to right field was caught by Christian Bustillos for the first out of the sixth inning. A single to center put a Bobcat on first base. Rejino fielded a sharply hit ground ball and came up throwing to E. Villa at second base for the second out. E. Villa made the turn and fired a strike to Rigo Mendoza at first to complete the double play.

J. Villa singled up the middle to lead off the bottom of the sixth inning and went to second on the throwback to the infield. J. DeLeon reached first on an error by the left fielder, and J. Villa scored. E. Villa doubled to score J. DeLeon.

Rejino hit behind E. Villa and sent a line drive to right field. E. Villa scored on the play. Rejino went to second on the throw home and scored on a single to right field by Kettner. The Mules led 11-2 after six innings.

Dimmitt could not close the gap in the top of the seventh inning.

The Mules will travel to Littlefield Saturday, March 24, to open the 2018 District 2-3A season against the Wildcats at noon.
