The Lady Mule golf team shot an opening round total of 503 strokes to finish fourth in the first District 2-3A Golf Tournament that was held March 26 on the Plainview Country Club Course.

“The girls played well today,” said Lady Mule coach, Steven Butler. “But they are going to have to play really well next week to get us to regional’s as this year’s girl’s teams are a lot tougher than last year.”

“They can do it, but it will take all five shooting their season bests.”

Shallowater leads the district with a total of 378 strokes, and Slaton is in second place with 472 strokes. A second Shallowater team holds third place with 491 strokes, and the Lady Mules are in fourth place with 503 strokes. Idalou is currently in fifth place with 509 strokes, and Friona rounds out the district in sixth place with 535 strokes.

Yvonne Diaz led the Lady Mules with a first round total of 117 strokes. Kiarra Regalado finished with 125 strokes, and Haili Gardner was one stroke back with 126 strokes. Natalie Diaz finished with a total of 135 strokes, and Adriana Mora rounded out the team with 140 strokes.

The Lady Mules will gather with the balance of the district at Lubbock’s Meadowbrook Golf Course on April 2 to complete the district play.
