The Muleshoe High School tennis teams competed in the District 2-3A Tennis Meet held in Plainview Friday and Saturday.

Muleshoe, Dimmitt, Friona, Littlefield, Idalou, Roosevelt, and Shallowater sent teams to the meet.

“The weather was less than perfect but the teams performed at a level higher than previous years,” said MHS tennis coach Jody Wood. “The varsity team brought home eight medals, and the junior varsity squad won 16 medals.”

“We will have six players competing in the Region I Tennis Meet that will be held in Abilene April 19 and 20. Two individual players will go to the Region I Meet as alternates.”

The Boys Doubles team, Izaiah Perez, and Ricardo Torres brought home the gold medal as district champions. The team defeated Dimmitt 6-1, 6-2 in their first match. Shallowater was the next team to fall to the Mules 6-2, 4-6, 6-3. Perez and Torres took down Littlefield 6-4, 6-0 in the championship match.

The Mixed Doubles team, Liliana Barrera, and Jacob Kettner won the gold medals as district champions. They defeated Shallowater 6-4, 6-2 in the first match and defeated Littlefield 6-2, 6-0 for the championship.

Sofia Sianez and Anghy Avilez won the silver medal in Girls Doubles. They defeated Littlefield 6-2, 6-4 in the first match. Shallowater went down to defeat 6-4, 4-6, 6-1 to the Lady Mules. A second Shallowater team defeated the Lady Mules 1-6, 3-6 in the championship match.

The gold and silver medal teams will compete in Abilene.

Luke Leal earned the bronze medal in Boys Singles. He defeated Roosevelt 6-0, 6-2, in the first match, and Idalou fell 6-4, 6-2 in the second match. Leal lost his third match to Shallowater 0-6, 0-6, and bounced back to defeat Littlefield 6-4, 6-6 (5-7 tiebreaker), 6-1 in his fourth match. Shallowater defeated Leal 4-6, 4-6. Leal will be an alternate at the Region I Meet.

Cassidy Cage won the bronze medal in Girls Singles. She defeated Idalou 6-0, 6-1 in her first match. She defeated Shallowater 6-0, 6-2 in her second match, and defeated a second Shallowater player 3-6, 6-0, 6-6 (7-3 tiebreaker). She lost to Idalou 2-6, 4-6 for second place. Cage is an alternate for the Region I Meet.

Yvonne Diaz and Natalie Diaz took fourth place in Girls Doubles. They defeated Idalou 6-1, 4-6, 6-2 before losing to Shallowater 4-6, 1-6. A second Shallowater team dropped the Diaz and Diaz team from medal contention 4-6, 6-4, 4-6.

Hallie Myatt and Corbin Hardwick placed fourth in Mixed Doubles. They defeated Idalou 6-0, 6-1. Myatt and Hardwick then lost to Littlefield 3-6, 3-6, and to Shallowater 4-6, 6-3, 6-6 (5-7 tiebreaker).

Israel Ramirez defeated Roosevelt 6-2, 6-2 in Boys Singles before losing to Littlefield 4-6, 5-7. Kobe Gutierrez and Kevin Chavez defeated Dimmitt 6-4, 6-6 (7-5 tiebreaker) in Boys Doubles, before losing to Shallowater 0-6, 1-6.

Aron Chacon led the JV MHS team by winning the gold medal and district championship in Boys Singles. He defeated three consecutive Friona players 8-1, 8-1, 8-2 for the gold medal.

Kyndal Miller and Anna Phillips teamed up for the gold medals and district championship in Girls Doubles. They defeated an MHS team 8-5, Friona 8-1, and a second MHS team 8-6 in the championship match.

The Boys Doubles team of Raul Sierra and Jimmy Villa brought home the gold medals and district championship. They defeated Shallowater 8-6, Shallowater 8-4 and an MHS team 9-7 for the championship.

The Mixed Doubles team of Alexis Campos and Brendon Rodriguez won the gold medals and district championship. They defeated Friona 8-2 and Friona 8-4 for the gold.

Valentina Platas earned the silver medal in Girls Singles. She defeated Friona 3-1, MHS 8-1, and Littlefield 8-2, before losing to Slaton 3-8 in the championship match.

Isaac Mendoza and Romeo Reyes won the silver medals in Boys Doubles. They defeated Shallowater 9-7, MHS 8-6 and lost to Sierra and Villa 7-9 in the championship match. Ethan Clapps and Carter McCamish earned the bronze medal in Boys Doubles. They defeated Friona 8-6, Littlefield 8-6 and lost to Mendoza and Reyes 6-8.

Grace Leal and Katelyn Kelley won the silver medals in the Girls Doubles by defeating Roosevelt 8-6, an MHS team 8-5, before losing to Miller and Phillips 6-8. Laura Chavez and Heather Chavez placed fourth in Girls Doubles. They defeated Friona 8-3, Friona 8-4, lost to MHS, and MHS 3-8.

Anahi Barrera and Danielle Moran defeated Slaton 8-4 and lost to MHS 5-8.

Karely Vasquez defeated Roosevelt 8-6 in Girls Doubles and lost to MHS 1-8. Adriana Mora lost to Friona 6-8.

The regional qualifiers and alternates will continue to work on their games while waiting to compete in Abilene.
