The Lady Mules celebrated Senior Day on Thursday afternoon by defeating the Roosevelt Lady Eagles 7-3. Roosevelt finished third in District 2-3A and will enter the playoffs with a loss.

“Today we saw the team we felt like we could be,” said Lady Mule softball coach Ryan Miller. “Our bats were hot with seven players getting hits and six different players scored. Brianna Barron and Jillian Rojas each had three hits.”

“When we are hitting the ball our errors on defense seem to go away. We will miss our seniors as each of them brought something different to the team.”

“I want to take this opportunity to thank the parents, grandparents, and the fans for their support this season. We are already looking forward to next season.”

Emili Mora got the Lady Mule defense rolling by scooping up a ground ball at shortstop and throwing to Melody Moran at first base for the first out of the game. Clarissa Rejino struck out the next two Lady Eagles for a three-up and three-down first inning.

Mora then led off the bottom half of the first inning with a three-base rip down the right-field line. Madison Hasley was hit by a pitch to put Lady Mules at first and third bases. Hasley then stole second base.

Mora was tagged out at home plate when Moran tapped a swinging bunt down the third baseline. The Eagle pitcher fielded the ball and threw home for the out. Jillian Rojas collected her first two RBIs of the game with a double to the fence in left-center field. The Lady Mules led 2-0 after one inning.

A single and a double scored an Eagle run in the top of the second inning. Rejino struck out the final two batters to hang on to the 2-1 Lady Mule lead. The Lady Mules did not score in the bottom of the second inning.

Mora gunned down the Eagle leadoff batter in the top of the third inning after fielding a ground ball. The second batter drove Barron deep in the hole with an infield hit. Hasley popped up from behind the plate and fired a strike to Mora covering second to cut down the base runner attempting to steal second.

AB Mendoza tracked down a fly ball to right field for the final out Roosevelt out.

Dellany Martinez sent a line drive over the head of the right fielder for a one-out triple in the bottom of the third inning. J. Rojas collected her third RBI and second hit of the game with a ground ball back up the middle. The Lady Mules led 3-1 after three innings.

Moran collected a ground ball down the first-base line and stepped on the bag for the first Eagle out of the fourth inning. Barron chased down back-to-back fly balls to shallow right field for the final two outs of the inning.

Mia Reyna sent a one-out single to right field. Barron followed with a single to centerfield. Reyna was forced out on a fielder’s choice on a tapper back to the pitcher by Mora. Hasley lined a tripled to the right-field fence to collect Barron and Mora. Hasley scored on a wild pitch to give the Lady Mules a 6-1 lead after four innings.

Roosevelt scored in the top of the fifth inning on a triple, and a sacrifice fly to center.

The Lady Mules got that run back with Rejino scoring on a sacrifice ground ball to first by Reyna. The Lady Mules led 7-2 after five complete innings.

The Eagles needed a minimum of five runs to force extra innings in the top of the seventh inning. Rejino fanned the first batter she faced on three straight pitches. The next batter tripled and scored the final run of the game. Dellany Martinez made a running catch in center field to end the game.
