The regular meeting of the Muleshoe City Council was held June 11. Members present were Mayor Cliff Black, Earl Behrends, council member, and Gary Parker, council member. Mayor Pro-Tem Colt Ellis was absent.
Others present were: City Manager LeAnn Gallman; City Secretary Zanea Carpenter; Gil Rennels, Channel 6; City Attorney Marcus Norris, Underwood Law Firm; Lieutenant Benny Parker; Jose Martinez; Economic Development Director Kasey Coker.
Unofficial minutes of the meeting follow.
The oath of office was administered to Mayor Cliff Black.
Black moved and Behrends seconded a motion to approve the minutes of the May 14 council meeting. Motion carried.v
Black moved and Parker seconded a motion to authorize solicitation and procurement of Professional Services in conjunction with the City’s HOME Reservation Agreement No. v20180022. Motion carried.
Parker moved and Behrends seconded a motion to approve the plat submitted by Super Electra, LLC and Blankenship Partnership, LTD, for the Pizza Hut location. Motion carried.
Black moved and Parker seconded a motion to approve the preliminary plat for O’Reilly Auto Parts. Motion carried.
Parker moved and Black seconded a motion to approve the reimbursement of receipts from the Muleshoe Roadriders for the advertising and promotion of the 2018 Motorcycle Rally in the amount of $1,066.41 from Hotel/Motel Tax Funds. Motion carried.
Black moved and Parker seconded a motion to approve the May 31 financials. Motion carried.
A closed session in accordance with Vernon’s Texas Codes Annotated, Government, Section 551.074 Personnel Matters — Police Chief, was held.
Administrative reports included:
n The Muleshoe Water Park opened for the 2018 season on Tuesday, May 29. There were 256 admissions for the first day.
n The Youth Fishing Day was held on Saturday, June 2, at Lake Muleshoe. Ninety-four fishers were registered for the event.
n Staff attended the TML Region III meeting on June 7 at the Scottish Rite Learning Center in Lubbock.
n The new lift station went online on June 5.
n The ground storage tank project is underway.
n Movie in the Park will be June 21. “The Bee Movie” will be shown.
n Election Day for the City Special Runoff Election to fill the vacancy in Council District #2 was Saturday, June 16.
n Kasey Coker, Director of Economic Development has arranged for Carlton Schwab of the Texas Economic Development Council to meet with Council and the Economic Development Board on the evening of Thursday, June 28, to share information on Type A and Type B Economic Development Corporations.
n The City Swimming Party will be at 7 p.m. Monday, June 25.
n A pre-bid meeting on the 2.1-million-dollar airport grant project was Tuesday, June 12.
n After the July council meeting, the council will have a budget work session.
