Madge Cannon, 82, of Littlefield, went to be with her Lord Tuesday, June 26. 2018 in Littlefield. She was born February 21, 1936 in Bula, Texas to John A. Johnson and Talhina Trussel Johnson.
Madge married Jimmy Cannon January 14, 1956 in Bailey County. She graduated from Texas Tech, and then obtained her Master’s Degree at Northwestern Oklahoma State University. She taught Elementary school for over 30 years at Littlefield Independent School District. She was a dedicated teacher who taught many and loved each and every student, and education was a top priority for her. Madge was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, and the Texas retired Teachers Association. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Littlefield, where she also attended the Yak Class, and completed the Disciple Bible study class, all four years. Madge was most affectionately called “Ma” by her grandchildren and great grandchildren, and she loved her family. She was an accomplished cook and seamstress, and homemaker. She enjoyed traveling to the mountains with her family and traveling with other various groups after Jimmy passed. Madge also valued the time she spent with her girlfriend groups, playing dominos or just getting together.
Madge is survived by her daughter, Janice Albus Ritchey and husband John of Magnolia, TX; son, Tim Cannon and wife Tammy of Bula; two sisters, Ellen Ladd of Muleshoe, TX and Alva Jean Hearne of Mesquite, TX; 5 grandchildren, Dustin Cannon and wife Shonda, Chase Cannon and wife Danielle, Shaelynn Mink and husband Robert, Kim Peters and John Peters; 11 great grandchildren; and numerous extended family members. Waiting for her in Heaven was her husband Jimmy Cannon, who passed August 16, 2002; her parents; and two brothers, Webster Johnson and Robert Johnson.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, June 28, 2018 at First United Methodist Church in Littlefield with Pastor Eddie Riley officiating. Interment will follow in Littlefield Memorial Park. Serving as pallbearers will be Dustin Cannon, Chase Channon, John Peters, Callen Cannon, Robert Mink, Tom Ladd. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m., at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the Littlefield Elementary Library Fund, C/O LISD 1207 E. 14th Street, Littlefield, TX 79339. Arrangements are under the personal care of Hillcrest Funeral Home in Littlefield.
