• Project will add rumble strips, restripe various roads

OLTON — Work on a $193,000 Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) project to add rumble strips, restripe and fog seal various roadways in the Lubbock District is scheduled to start next week on Monday, August 20. Contractor Stripe-A-Zone, from Grand Prairie, TX, will begin work along US 70 in Lamb County.
“More than 36 miles in Hale, Lamb and Bailey counties will see safety improvements made,” said Jeremy Dearing, P.E., TxDOT traffic engineer. “Rumble strips with be milled into either the roadway shoulder or centerline. Shoulder rumble strips are placed just beyond the edgeline to warn drivers that they are entering a part of the road not intended for normal traffic use. Centerline rumble strips are placed on the centerline of undivided highways to warn drivers that they are leaving their intended lane of travel and to reduce head-on collisions.”
Various locations along these roadways are included in the project:
Hale County: FM 400, from US 70 to FM 784
Lamb County: US 70, from US 385 (Springlake) to the Hale County line
Bailey County: US 70, from US 84 to Lamb County line, and SH 214, from US 70 to Parmer County line.
Motorists should expect delays and are asked to slow down and drive with caution through the work zone for their safety and the safety of the workers. Work is expected to wrap-up early-September and will take place weather permitting
