New Business: Fundraiser for the Muleshoe Art
Association: The fundraiser event will be at the Muleshoe Merry Market in November. The president discussed the purpose of the Merry Market to be a fundraiser to fund art programs, workshops, and our spring art show (prizes, advertising, and so forth). Art demos have been planned to promote visual art and encourage new membership among visitors to our art booth. Visitors will be encouraged to purchase items over $10 to get their name in the “Hat” for a drawing of the demo paintings by featured artists. Members will be selling 2-D and 3-D art-related items in the booth along with greeting cards and Christmas ornaments for the scholarship program. There was discussion related to commissioned-based versus no commission for items sold by members. After, the president listened to the concerns, comments, and ideas of the members present, the discussion was tabled until a called meeting could be scheduled later this month to plan the fundraising event.
The president announced the up-coming October program – “Paint-out” for the Merry Market Fundraiser. Twenty-four (24) 12 x12 gallery-wrapped canvases along with paints have been purchased to provide the needed supplies for members to create original art during the October program. The finished paintings will be sold in our booth to raise funds during our fundraising event at the Muleshoe Merry Market. A success story was shared by a member regarding the successful results of selling donated gallery-wrapped canvas paintings at the Lubbock Art Festival by the West Texas Watercolor Society. The president stated, “we hope to have the same success from the artwork representing each member of the Muleshoe Art Association including photography and other items available in our booth at the Muleshoe Merry Market”. The president again reminded the members that the Merry Market was the only annual fundraiser the association has and to remember the fundraiser is to raise funds to support the art association programs, art shows, workshops, and any event that promotes the appreciation of visual art in our community.
