The Muleshoe Mules lose a heartbreaker in front of a packed homecoming crowd, to one of their oldest rivalries, the Friona Chieftains. The Mules hosted the Chieftains Friday night and were set back a 0-3 start on the season. The Mules displayed heart and tough tenacity in the loss. The offense had a lot of bright spots and being able to find the end zone more times than previous weeks.
The Mules received the ball to start off the game but would find themselves struggling offensively and defensively in the first quarter. The second quarter would be different with Senior quarterback Luke Del Toro finding the end zone twice with his feet, while the defense would fight tough with a high powered chieftain offense. The first half would come to a close with the Mules trailing by four points with a score of Mules 14, Chieftains 18.
In the second half of the game Del Toro would once again finds the end zone with his legs while the Chieftains would run away with the game in the fourth quarter. Final Score Mules 21, Chieftains 46.
The Mules finish the game with a total of 355 yards offensively, Senior quarterback Luke Del Toro goes 18/33 complete passes, 226 passing yards, 23/104 rushing yards and three touchdowns. Senior WR Brady Martinez finishes the game with 7 receives for a total of 115 yards. The Mules will travel to Brownfield, Texas next Friday to square off with the Cubs.
