The Muleshoe High School Varsity Football team was held scoreless for their second week in a row. The Mules traveled to Idalou, Texas to face the Wildcats this past Friday night. With the final non-district game in the books, the Mules fall 0-5 on the season.
“We are definitely going through some growing pains and some injuries, we have to deal with” says Coach Walker, “but the teams we are playing are not going to feel sorry for us. The big focus was to get better at what we do and get ready to go into our district games. We are keeping score, but the first five games do not affect our play-off seating. These are just practice games.”
The Mules offense was being held to 169 total yards, 62 passing and 107 rushing. Senior quarterback #7 Luke Del Toro throws 9/18 for 62 yards, average 6.8 yards passing- his longest for 20 yards and one interception. Del Toro also rushes 16 times for 56 yards, average 3.5 yard per carry Del Toro longest for 35 yards with one fumble, and being the leading rusher. The leading wide receiver goes to Senior #1 Brady Martinez with four catches for 46 yard, average 11.5 yards per catch and the longest catch for 20 yards.
Defensive leaders for the night were strong safety #10 Jimmy Villa with six solo tackles and one assist, Junior free safety #21 Kelan Florez had five tackles and three assists, Junior linebacker #22 Christian Bustillos had four solo tackles and five assists.
The Mules will take a week off to prepare for the Littlefield Wildcats on Friday October 12th, 2018 here at Benny Douglas Stadium at 7:00 p.m. This game will be the Mules first district test this season.
