The Muleshoe Mules were able to get their first win this past Friday night. The Mules hosted the River Road Wildcats here at Benny Douglas Stadium. To open up the game the Mules received the ball but were not able to score and had to punt it away to the Wildcats. The Wildcats took advantage and struck first. The Mules answered the call with a touchdown run from Senior quarterback Luke Del Toro. Del Toro ran thirteen yards to punch it in for the Mules. Senior kicker Brady Martinez tagged in the extra point for a successful field goal. The Mules would be the only team to find the end zone in the second quarter. Del Toro runs it in himself from one yard out. Junior linebacker Cristian Bustillos helped the Mules defense keep the Wildcats from scoring any points, Bustillos blocked a field goal attempt and robbed the Wildcats from scoring.
To start the second half of the game the Mules kick the ball for Wildcats to receive, both teams manage to score. Del Toro threw a long bomb to Senor wide receiver #11 Yoel Reyes, the two hook it up for an 85 yard touchdown pass and Martinez adding in the extra point. In the final quarter, the Mules and Wildcats both find the end zone again. Del Toro breaking his longest run of the night; 69 yard touchdown run that helped bring the Mules to victory. Bustillos had another blocked field goal attempt to once again keep the Wildcats from racking up points; the final score of the game Mules 28, Wildcats 21.
Del Toro finished up the night with 12/19 for 261 yards and one touchdown in the air, running the ball 23 times for 201 yards and three touchdowns. Reyes received five times for 186 yards and one touchdown. Defensive leaders are senior linebacker #33 Ean Hasley with 13 tackles, two tackles for loss of yards and one sack. #22 Cristian Bustillos had eight in half tackles, two tackles for loss of yards and two blocked field goals. Senior defensive line #53 Luis Franco had three tackles, two tackles for loss of yards and one fumble recovery.
The Mules will host the Slaton Tigers next Friday November 2, 2018 here at Benny Douglas Stadium at 7:00 p.m.
