The Muleshoe Mule sub varsity team traveled to Slaton, Texas this past Thursday to face the Tigers. The game would end in the Mules second district tie bringing their district record to 1-1-2 and overall record to 1-5-3. The score at the half was Slaton 14, Mules 8.In the second half the Mules score their final touchdown of the game, the mules attempted at a two-point conversion but were unsuccessful. The Mules defense did not allow the Tigers to reach the end zone at all in the second half, neither teams scoring bringing the final score to Mules 14, Tigers 14.
Quarterback Zach Hasley finished the night 4/11 passing for 63 yards; running back Joe Gutierrez had 1/1 pass for 59 yards and one passing touchdown. Defensive leaders for the game were Gutierrez with eight tackles, one forced fumble, and one interception. Barron had seven tackles, and one interception. Guardado had five tackles and Tim Alfaro with four tackles and a fumble recovery. “The guys played hard the whole game and had some chances to put some more points on the board, but just couldn’t get the ball to bounce our way” stated sub varsity head coach Steven Butler “besides the two big plays that allowed scores, the defense played very well. These guys have grown up and matured so much this season, and we expect really great things out of them in the near future.”
The Mules will host the Bushland Falcons on Nov. 8 at Benny Douglas Stadium. The Mules and Falcons will meet up for the final district contest of the season.
