The Muleshoe High School Varsity girls’ basketball team had their season opener this past Saturday here at Muleshoe High School Gymnasium against the Hale Center Owls. The Lady Mules took control of the game early, in the first quarter the Lady Mules would lead the Owls 18-16 and continued their lead up into the second quarter leaving into halftime with the score 31-23. The third and fourth the Lady Mules managed to keep the lead, bringing the final score Lady Mules 64, Lady Owls 43.The offensive leaders for this game were; senior Keely Dunham with 14 points, Dunham had six field goals, one assist, three offensive rebounds and went two for six from the free-throw line; Senior Alyssa Wheeler had eleven points under her belt with three field goals, two assists and went five for nine in free throws; Sophomore Anahi Barrera had nine points, a three point shot, three field goals, two assists, one offensive rebound and went zero for two at the free throw line.
Defensive leaders for the Lady Mules were Barrera with six steals, three blocked shots, and three defensive rebounds; Wheeler had three steals, one block, and four defensive rebounds.
The Lady Mules will travel to Idalou to face the Lady Cats on Saturday; tip-off is set for 2 p.m.
