The Muleshoe Mules Varsity basketball team traveled to Dimmit for a district contest against the Bobcats. The game proved to be a tough loss for the Mules, who lost 52-72.
The Mules got off to a slow start to open up the game. Their first points came from a pair of free throws by Isreal Vasquez. A few plays later, Jacob Barron hit a jump shot for his first two points of the quarter with an assist from fellow teammate Derek Barron. Jacob Barron also hit a 3-point shot and had a steal followed by a layup for 2 points to try and spark a little life into the Mules. The first quarter ended with the Mules trailing 9-16.
In the second quarter, Jacob Barron was sent to the line after he was fouled on a shot. Jacob hit both his free throws to add 2 points to the board. Raul Sierra hit his first 3-pointer of the night, but the Mules defense allowed the Bobcats’ offense to score 21 points to their 11 and went into the locker room falling behind 20-37.
The second half was more successful for the Mules behind the hot hand of Vasquez. Vasquez hit three 3-point shots, hit two jump shots and made both of his free throws. Vasquez racked up 15 points and was the only scorer for the Mules through the third quarter. The Bobcats matched the Mules’ points and kept their lead to close the third quarter ahead of the Mules by 18 points.
The Mules rallied and put up their highest scoring quarter in the fourth – but it still wasn’t enough. Luke Del Toro along with Vasquez and Raul Sierra all contributed 3-point shots. Despite the team effort the Mules lost the game with a score of Mules 52, Bobcats 72.
Vasquez was the to
p scorer for the Mules with 21 points. Jacob Barron had 8 points. Derek Barron and Raul Sierra both finished the night with 6 points.
