Winners of the annual Bailey County Electric Cooperative (BCEC) Youth Tour Contest were chosen on January 20, 2019. Representing BCEC on the all-expense-paid trip in June 2019 on the Government In Action Youth Tour in Washington, D.C. are: Miranda Melendez from Muleshoe High School, Diamond Devon Pacheco and Preston Stewart, both from Lazbuddie High School.
The two alternates who were announced were Manuel Fernandez of Muleshoe High School and Joshua Cox of Lazbuddie High School.
If any of the three winners are unable to take part in the Youth Tour trip this summer, an alternate will represent BCEC on the trip.
The contest finalists were selected from 11 high school students who were eligible to participate in the interviews. The students who applied for the trip were interviewed by a panel of independent judges from out of the service territory.
The trip will begin in Austin, Texas with tours of the state Capitol and Bob Bullock Museum. In Washington, the students will have an in-person visit with congressional representatives on Capitol Hill. Their tour will include visits to the Supreme Court, Library of Congress, Arlington National Cemetery, Mount Vernon and touring many memorials, monuments and museums.
