The Muleshoe Mules finished their basketball season with a win over the Friona Chieftans.
The game kicked off with the Mules losing the tipoff and sending Friona to the free throw line.
The Chieftans hit only one of the two free throws and took their only lead in the game with just 1 point, which was short-lived when the Mules’ Luke Leal hit a 3-point shot. The Mules took the lead and never looked back. The Mules got out of the first quarter holding on to the lead with help from the free throw line.
The Mules created the biggest score gap in the second quarter by putting 21 points on the board to the Chieftans’ 5. Ethan Villa got the momentum going for the Mules with a defensive rebound and fast break play to get to the hoop with a layup.
A few plays later, he stole the ball and gave an assist to Derrick Barron for another layup. The Mules took advantage of Barron’s heat after he hit a 3-poiner extending the lead by 11 points. Villa and Barron teamed up again after a Chieftans turnover and put more points on the board. The Mules finished the first half with a score of 34 points to the Chieftans’ 14.
Momentum for the Mules was slow to start the second half of the game. The Mules made 13 points in the third quarter and 19 in the fourth. The Chieftans kept up the fight and managed 25 points but it was too little too late. The Mules came out victorious finishing their season with a 66-39 win.
