The Sudan High School cheerleaders are already gearing up for a spirit filled Hornet football season. The squad attended UCA Cheer Camp at Angelo State University in San Angelo recently and keeping tradition, brought home several awards.
The SHS team that consists of 4 seniors, a junior and 3 freshman learned new material for dance and cheer along with many new safety regulations that go along with the sport. 14 different schools competed at this year’s camp.
Sudan Varsity won 1st place in Game Day Cheer competition, as well as 2nd place in Game Day Rally Routine that includes an advanced dance performance.
The daily goal for every squad is to earn a “Spirit Stick” and superior ribbons for evaluations which the Sudan cheerleaders accomplished. Also a big deal in the cheerleading world is earning the highly coveted “Top Banana” award and for the second year in a row the SHS team brought that trophy home.
This month the high school cheerleaders are preparing for their annual Mini Cheer Camp so they can pass along a little of what they learned at UCA camp, to the “littles” in the area.
Pre-registration was held Monday, July 8th however, it’s not too late to sign up.
Sudan Mini Cheer Camp will be held Tuesday through Thursday, July 30th, 31st & August 1st. Camp hours are from 9 – Noon each day with a parent performance taking place at 11:30 am the last day of training. Campers or anyone wanting to participate will meet behind Sudan schools on the playground each day.
To register for camp you can still sign up at 8:30 the first morning (Tuesday, July 30th). The fee is $25 which includes a camp t-shirt, cheer & dance instruction as well as snacks and drinks.
An added bonus for the campers is taking part in All-American cheer tryouts, a jump off and FUN activities each day.
