Amazon recently held a two-day sale that offered deep discounts to Amazon Prime users. Some brick-and-mortar stores that also sell goods online followed suit with online sales of their own.
All of this means that folks will soon be receiving packages at their doorways, providing a temptation to thieves.
Muleshoe Chief of Police Gary McHone offers tips to keep your packages safe.
“I’d recommend folks use a post office box for their mailing address,” Mchone said. “Also, people sometimes forget to stop their mail. If there are periods of time where packages are going to sit out for a long time, they can go to the post office or go to the USPO website and stop their mail so packages do not accumulate.”
Another option McHone recommends is having a close neighbor or family member pick up the packages while they’re gone.
Security devices are another option.
“I recommend cameras or any home security system, McHone said. “Some systems can be remotely accessed, and some camera systems are fairly inexpensive. People can put them up themselves, and many of them are very discreet and weatherproof. I’d recommend any type of deterrent that can protect your home.”
