DPS troopers meet at Watson as part of Safe Schools Initiativewebmaster October 3, 2019 0 COMMENTS
On Monday, several members of the Department of Public Safety held a regional meeting at Muleshoe schools. Governor Greg Abbott had requested the DPS Officers to hold meetings at schools rather than their DPS offices to fulfill the governor’s Safe Schools Initiative.
Muleshoe ISD was honored to have regional DPS officers come for a meeting at Watson Junior High. David Vela, Muleshoe ISD’s Safety Officer, helped organize the meal for the meeting and hosted the officers.
Texas Department of Public Safety Commercial Vehicle Enforcement meets quarterly to collaborate on the mission of the department. The meeting covered traffic and criminal trends in the Muleshoe area. This information is relayed to Austin from all meetings within the state of Texas. The data is analyzed and policy changes are made to improve the strengths of Commercial Vehicle Enforcement.
“We appreciated the DPS officers great professionalism,” said Watson Principal Melvin Nusser. “These men are true heroes for our area as they protect and serve in so many ways. We invite the DPS officers to stop by Watson Junior High regularly to meet our kids and eat lunch with us. “Watson Junior High always provides great hospitality for our law enforcement officers.
Watson always backs the blue.”
“Muleshoe ISD is able to foster healthy relationships with the Department of Public Safety, and it is always a pleasure to invite them to our district and our MISD family,” said MISD Superintendent Dr. R.L. Richards.
«These DPS officers are great public servants,” Vela said. “Their willingness to stop by the school and stay in touch with us is awesome. Their ability to provide guidance and security for our community, students and staff has been tremendous.
“DPS is a wonderful asset to Muleshoe schools as they continue to place students’ safety as the top priority for our school.”
Vela complimented the DPS and MISD partnership saying, “The DPS officers appearance at school and at school events is a great deterrent. Due to the mission of DPS and the professionalism of the DPS Officers, Muleshoe ISD is safer now than it ever has been.”
