The Sudan Hornets’ varsity football team shutout the Springlake-Earth Wolverines on Friday, 50-0.
The Hornets improved to 8-0 overall, while the Wolverines fell to 2-6 overall on the season.
Sudan totaled 409 yards; including 132 passing yards and 277 rushing yards. The Wolverines totaled just 89 yards; 69 passing yards and 20 rushing yards.
The Hornets opened the game on a four-yard rushing touchdown by Callen Cannon. Sudan converted the two-point conversion on a run by Bode Box, making the score, 8-0. Rustin Penrod followed it up with a four-yard touchdown run, later in quarter, making the score, 14-0, after the failed two-point conversion.
Senior quarterback, Christian Montes, rushed for a five-yard touchdown to extend their lead to, 20-0, heading into quarter number two.
Montes added a six-yard touchdown run in the second quarter and tacked on the two-point conversion, making the score, 28-0, going into the locker room at halftime.
Box rushed for an 82-yard touchdown run to open the second half and tacked on the two-point conversion, pushing their lea to, 36-0. Montes scored his third touchdown of the game on a 19-yard run, which was followed with a run by Brett Wilson on the two-point conversion for the score, making the score, 44-0.
Cannon closed out the third quarter with a two-yard rushing touchdown, as the Hornets closed out the Wolverines, 50-0.
Montes finished the game seven-of-11 passing for 132 yards. He also had 12 carries for 118 yards and three touchdowns.
Box had five carries for 93 yards and one touchdown, while Cannon chipped in seven carries for 33 yards and two touchdowns and Penrod added two carries for nine yards and one touchdown.
Beto Mendoza had five carries for 79 yards, while Lane Wilson hauled in one catch for 30 yards and Box added one catch for 23 yards.
Defensively, Penrod and Box each recorded an interception, while senior, Alex Conley, recorded a fumble recovery.
Jesus Guerra finished the game with two tackles, two assists, one sack and one tackle for loss, while senior, Parker Battin, added two tackles.
For the Wolverines, Sophomore quarterback, Evan DeLeon, was nine-of 14 passing for 69 yards and two interceptions, while senior running back, Jr. Vargas, finished with 10 carries for 31 yards and sophomore running back, Keshan Holmes added eight carries for 15 yards.
Sophomore, Trace Goodman, finished the game with four catches for 43 yards, while Holmes had three catches for 33 yards.
The Hornets will host Plains on Friday for Senior Night, while the Wolverines will be at Seagraves to take on the Eagles.
Both contests are scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
