It is our belief that every person deserves to age well. Our mission at the Bailey County Senior Center is to create and/or improve on the well-being of our senior population in the areas of physical, mental, and spiritual health. By daily providing social and behavioral support, we cancel out loneliness and isolation and enhance the well-being of the senior participants in our community. At our Center, the doors open at 8:00 a.m. and close at 4:00 p.m. Special activities are planned each day. In addition, we prepare and serve a healthy lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. daily.
The Bailey County Senior Center is a nonprofit facility. It is led by a Board of Directors which meets monthly. The Board consists of Royce Turner, President; Darwin McLeod, Vice Presidents; and Marie Brown, Secretary. Other members are Lucy Perez Bachicha, Julian Dominguez, Jerry Ruthhardt, and Mary Wauson. The members at large are Zanea Carpenter and Becky Hoksbergen.
The Center also has the following staff: Carolyn Johnson, Director; Kaci Lee, Assistant Director; Janis Morrison, Activity Director; Marion Dooley, Head Cook; Mendy Hawkins-Pierce, Assistant Cook; and Tomas Cruz, Housekeeper. In addition, the Center would not be what it is today without willing, dedicated and talented volunteers.
As with any non-profit organization, our staff and board must continually strive to keep fundraisers going to finance the Center. We are just now launching a new Sponsor of the Week Program. With this, businesses or individuals agree to sponsor the Center one week per year. In return, they receive a large sign outside and inside our Center promoting themselves or their business each week day. Their information will also be on social media each day of the week, Including the Center’s Facebook page which is liked and followed by over 700 individuals. They too, will receive daily advertising on Channel 6 TV and will be printed in the Muleshoe Journal for the week. In addition, the Senior Center will print a weekly brochure highlighting the business or sponsor of the week. These brochures will include the Center’s daily activities, menus, and special events.
If you want to promote a business or would want to have a personal sponsorship, we encourage you to contact us and let us explain this program to you. We already have several signed up and will begin the program today (October 28, 2019). We hope you will join the others who see this as a way to get great advertising for their business while giving to a worthwhile organization that continues to meet the needs of our citizens.
Come by our Center or call us at 806-272-4969 for more information.
