Muleshoe ISD Board of Trustees members Sergio Leal, Jay Cage, Jesus Tovar, Kevin Morris and Jeff King attended Legislative Update training on Tuesday, Oct. 22. The training was presented by Dax Gonzalaes of the Texas Association of School Boards at Educational Service Center 17 in Lubbock.
MISD Superintendent Dr. R.L. Richards said, “Board members have attended several training sessions this year regarding House Bill 3 and many other legislative items that will soon change part of the Texas public school system.”
According to the Texas Education Agency website, “House Bill 3 (HB 3) is a sweeping and historic school finance bill passed by the 86th Texas Legislature and signed by Governor Greg Abbott in 2019. The bill provides more money for Texas classrooms, increases teacher compensation, reduces recapture and cuts local property taxes for Texas taxpayers. HB 3 is one of the most transformative Texas education bills in recent history.
“The bill is the result of months of work beginning with the Texas Commission on Public School Finance and culminating in bipartisan work between the members of the Texas House and Senate.”
