The Springlake-Earth Wolverines’ varsity basketball team survived a nail-biter over Whitharral, 48-47, to remain in first place in District 5-1A.
With the win, the Wolverines improve to 19-6 overall, 4-0 in district play.
Whitharral jumped out to a, 19-7, lead in the first quarter, but the Wolverines outscored the Panthers, 15-5, in quarter number two to cut the lead to, 26-22, going into the locker room at halftime.
Whitharral edged out the Wolverines in the third quarter, 17-14, but Springlake-Earth poured in 12 points in the fourth quarter, while holding the Panthers to just six points in the quarter, to take the contest, 48-47.
Senior, Diego Sanchez, led the team in scoring with a game-high 22 points, to go along with five assists, three rebounds, two steals and one block. Sophomore, Keshan Holmes, joined him in double-figures scoring with 10 points, to go along with nine rebounds and one steal.
Sophomore, Evan DeLeon, finished with eight points, three assists, two steals and one rebound, while sophomore, Kaden Castillo, chipped in six points and two assists. Senior, Cole Royal, added two points and senior, Lucas Heath, finished with six rebounds and one block.
The Wolverines hosted Morton on Friday to close out the first half of district play. Results were not available at press time. They will open the second half of district play on Tuesday with a road game against Lazbuddie.
Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m.

With the win, the Wolverines improve to 20-6 overall, 5-0 in district play.
It was a tight contest through the first quarter, with the Wolverines holding a two-point advantage, 17-15, heading into the second quarter. Springlake-Earth, though, would erupt for 28 points in the second frame to take a, 45-28, lead into the locker room at halftime.
Both teams tallied 10 points in the third quarter and the Wolverines poured in 22 points in the final quarter to take the contest, 77-52. The Wolverines were led by sophomore, Keshan Holmes, who finished with 21 points, 16 rebounds, two assists and one block. Senior, Diego Sanchez, tallied 20 points, seven rebounds, four assists and one steal.
Sophomore, Kaden Castillo, netted 15 points, to go along with three rebounds, two steals, two blocks and one assist, while sophomore, Evan DeLeon, chipped in 10 points, 10 assists, four rebounds and two blocks. Sophomore, Trace Goodman, tallied eight points, one rebound and one assist, while Micah Sanchez finished with three points, three rebounds and two assists.
The Wolverines were at Lazbuddie on Tuesday to take on the Longhorns. Results were not available at press time. They will continue district play on Friday with a home game against Whiteface.
Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m.
The Springlake-Earth Lady Wolverines’ junior high basketball team closed out the season against Petersburg with a, 40-5, victory.
The Lady Wolverines finished the District Runner-ups to Whiteface.
Sydney Furr led the team in scoring with nine points, to go along with four rebounds and two steals, while Taytum Goodman finished with six points, six assists, four steals, three rebounds and one block.
DD Delgado chipped in six points, while Emma Samaron tallied six points, four rebounds, three assists and two blocks and Isabella Gonzales contributed five points, one rebound and one steal.
Jasmine Garcia added four points, two steals and one assist, while Ada Hernandez tallied two points, two rebounds and two assists and Grace McIver finished with two points and two rebounds.

Freshman, Kani Holmes, led the team with 26 points, to go along with six rebounds, one assist and one steal, while freshman, Halee Toscano, chipped in 18 points, six rebounds, five assist and one steal.
Sophomore, Mahalia Delgado, contributed six points, seven rebounds, two assists and three steals, while senior, Lyndsi Mendoza, tallied four points, six rebounds, one assist and one steal.
Junior, Jacksiry Figueroa, added two points, while sophomore, Micaela Fuentes, finished with one point, five rebounds, two assists and three steals.
The Lady Wolverines hosted Morton on Friday. Results were not available at press time. They will continue their season on Tuesday with a road game against Lazbuddie.
