This past Friday marked the end of week 4 of our drive-thru and home delivery meals at the Bailey County Senior Center. So many have jumped in and helped the staff to make this happen for our seniors. We appreciate all of you, whether you give of your time, your finances or your physical labor. We couldn’t have done it without your help. As I think back on all of the work we’ve had to do to make this possible, I think of a quote that often comes to my mind, “We are all one-winged angels. It’s only when we help each other that we can fly!”
We saw real quickly that we would need lots of help when we started this project. Our staff all agreed to stay with us. That shows you the great, dedicated staff that we have. The Board of Directors have been a great help, also. There have been four (4) board members who have worked every single day since we have started. What a great asset they have been. They are Lucy Bachicha, Marie Brown, Jerry Ruthardt and Royce Turner. Other volunteers are: Darlene Pierce, Marlene Martin, Helen Cook, Debbie Black, Elaine Case, Nina Landers, Debbie Kemp, Mark and Marge Pilman, and Betty Innes. The need has been great for this service. Last week we served over 100 meals every day. We serve Monday thru Friday and showed a total served that week of 598 meals.
We will continue this service as long as we can. We know we will be among the last to open the doors to the Center because our seniors being the most “vulnerable” and “at risk” group concerning the coronavirus epidemic.
Certainly, we are anxious to get back to our normal activities, exercise classes, entertainment, and in-house meals. Till then, we will keep the drive-thru open or deliver to your home. If you have any questions or need more information about this service, call 806-272-4969.
