One person is dead and another is injured after a crash near Farwell Wednesday night.

A preliminary report from the Texas Department of Public Safety notes a freightliner truck towing a 2021 Utility Bulk Trailer was traveling westbound on U.S. 70 and crossed the median just northeast of Farwell. The truck went into the south barrow ditch and struck several delineators, a large tree and a metal wire fence.

Johnney Thomas Mangum, 65, was pronounced dead at the scene. Daniel Curtis McDonald, 37, was driving. He was transported to University Medical Center in Lubbock with non-incapacitating injuries.

Both men are from Blakely, Georgia. The report indicates McDonald was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. Mangum was not.

The crash occurred at 9:55 p.m. Wednesday in Parmer County. The preliminary report notes conditions were clear and dry and the posted speed limit was 55 miles per hour. It’s unclear what caused the vehicle to leave the roadway.

The crash remains under investigation.
