America’s Independence Day is approaching, so bring on the fireworks, hot dogs and summer activities. Muleshoe’s Fourth of July celebration is set to take place July 3 and is packed with community events for all ages.

In addition to contests, tournaments and food, the celebration will also include a live performance of Janis Diane’s world premiere “Pete the Mule” song at 12 p.m. On June 13, Mayor Colt Ellis signed a proclamation declaring “Pete the Mule” as the official theme song of The National Mule Memorial.

Parade participants will lineup at 9 a.m. with the parade starting at 10 a.m. The 17th annual Brisket BQQ Meal will start at 11 a.m. and last through 2 p.m. Contests taking place after the parade include:

The 2021 Little Miss and Little Mr. Firecracker Pageant: The contest will host three divisions including children under one, those ages 1-3 and kids 4-6. There will be a $20 entry fee, and participants must register by June 30. Contact Andrea Alfaro at (806) 518-8566 for more information.

The car, tractor and motorcycle show: The show will take place immediately after the parade. There will be a free entry fee.

The most patriotic bike contest: Participants will decorate their bike and whoever has the most patriotic bike will take home a prize. Judging will take place immediately after the parade by the car show set up. There is no entry fee.

Pie eating contest: The contest is sponsored by United Supermarkets, and the winner will receive a prize.

Tournaments include:

Co-ed softball tournament: Teams will consist of three guys and three girls with an entry fee of $150 per team. Each game will last 45 minutes with a 3/2 pitch rule. The tournament will be located at 8th St. Fields. The deadline to register is June 30. Nana’s Benefit Co-ed Kickball Tournament: There must be 10 players per team. Each team must have an equal number of girls and guys, and the entry fee is $120 per team. Horseshoe tournament: There will be single and double games with a $20 entry fee. A first-place prize will be available for each division. Contact Richard Orozco (806-946-6063), Ronnie Orozco (806-543-0047) or Rudy Orozco (806-215-4176) to register.

Cornhole tournament: Entry fee will be $20 per team and first and second place winners will receive a T-shirt prize. Contact Richard Orozco (806-946-6063), Ronnie Orozco (806-543-0047) or Rudy Orozco (806-215-4176) to register.
