The Muleshoe Art Association gathered on Sept. 7 at the home of member Alice Liles for their monthly meeting.

President Ann Johnson called the meeting to order with eleven members and two guests, Debbie Black and Heather Hancock, present. Secretary Alice Liles read the minutes from the last meeting in May and called roll.   Misti Prater gave the treasurer’s report. Old and new business discussion covered the group’s decision to discontinue the art scholarship program due to lack of applicants, the spring art show, and art displays at Muleshoe Public Library and the Senior Center. Melba Bratcher gave a report on refreshments for future meetings.  Art activities held at the Senior Center by Art Association members Sandi Chitwood and Ann Johnson were discussed, and Kay Hohs and Shirley White shared upcoming programs with members.

The meeting was adjourned and members enjoyed cake, mixed nuts, ice cream, and iced water provided by Melba Bratcher, Alice Liles, and Sandra Chancey. The door prize was brought by Dianne Brown and won by Sandi Chitwood.

Alice Liles then led members in planting succulents in coffee mugs and other containers they brought to the meeting which was held outside so they didn’t have to worry about making a mess with dirt and other materials. Members chose plants provided by Liles and learned about watering the plants as well as the amount of sunlight needed for good growth.

Members present for the meeting were Ann Johnson, Kay Hohs, Sandi Chitwood, Misti Prater, Melba Bratcher, Shirley White, Joella Flowers, Dianne Brown, Mike Jones, Alice Liles, and Sandra Chancey.

The next meeting will be October 5 at the Muleshoe Heritage Center Santa Fe Depot at 2 p.m. Visitors and prospective members are welcome to attend.
