Lady Mules win district cross country title

The Muleshoe girls cross country team took home the district championship on Tuesday.
The District 3-3A meet was held at Mae Simmons Park in Lubbock.
The Lady Mules edged Brownfield for the district championship, finishing with 35 points to Brownfield’s 48.
Yvette Benavides led the way for Muleshoe, taking third overall in the girls varsity two-mile race. Benavides finished in a time of 13:49.28.
Mikaela Haseloff came in sixth, Angelina Armijo seventh, Vida Mora ninth and Alexa Estrada 10th to help propel the Lady Mules to the title. Zabry Haseloff came in 16th and Idaly Tarango 18th to round out the Muleshoe contingent.
Friona’s Yvonne Legaretta won the individual title and Rayleigh Perry of Brownfield finished second.
In the boys varsity three-mile race, Sergio Magallanes finishing seventh individually, crossing the finish line in a time of 18:55.23. Oscar Cabrera was 17th overall.
The top three teams and top 10 individuals advance to regionals. Magallanes will both advance to join the Lady Mules at the next stage.
