CVS Pharmacy locations in Texas will now be equipped with time delay safes in an effort to quell robberies and prescription opioid misuse.

The business chain made the announcement via news release on Monday noting that the change would affect all 851 pharmacy locations across the state.

The time delay safes were first implemented in Indianapolis in 2015 where the city was experiencing a high number of pharmacy robberies, according to the news release. There was a 70% decline when the safes were rolled out. The company has rolled them out across 19 states since then.

“Time delay safes can help reduce the theft and diversion of opioid medications and bring added security to our stores which creates a safe environment for our patients and colleagues,” said Tom Moriarty, chief policy officer and general counsel for CVS Health.

The time delay on these safes cannot be overridden.

Every CVS Pharmacy location with one of these safes will have visible signage posted notifying customers.
