The Springlake-Earth Lady Wolverines’ varsity basketball team brought home the Whiteface Tournament Championship on Saturday with a win over Hale Center, 50-46.

The game was tied, 9-9, at the end of one, but the Lady Owls poured in 16 points in the second quarter to take a, 25-19, lead into the locker room at halftime.

The Lady Wolverines would bounce back in the third quarter, netting 18 points to take the lead, 37-32. Hale Center would outscore the Lady Wolverines, 14-13, in the fourth quarter, but the Lady Wolverines held on for the victory, 50-46.

Senior, Sayler Beerwinkle, led the team in scoring with 25 points, while she was joined in double-figures scoring by sophomore, Taytum Goodman, who netted 12 points. Junior, Halee Toscano, and Emma Samaron, each finished with five points, while Sydney Furr added two points and Jasmine Garcia finished with one point.

The Lady Wolverines downed Petersburg in their Tournament-opener on Thursday and on Friday they won a double-overtime thriller over Plains, 55-54.

Plains led by one, 13-12, at the end of the first quarter, and outscored Springlake-Earth, 10-9, in the second quarter to take a, 23-21, lead into the locker room at halftime.

In the third quarter, they extended their lead to, 36-31, but in the fourth quarter, the Lady Wolverines rallied for 16 points to tie the game, 47-47, forcing overtime. In overtime, each team only netted two points, as they went to double overtime tied, 49-49.

In the second overtime period, Springlake-Earth outscored the Cowgirls, 6-5, to take the contest, 55-54.

Beerwinkle led the team in scoring with 20 points and was one of four Lady Wolverines in double-figures. Goodman netted 11 points, while Toscano and Furr each finished with 10 points. Garcia added four points in the contest.

The Lady Wolverines travel to Olton on Tuesday to take on the Fillies. Results were not available at press time. They will continue their season on Thursday when they open play at the Whitharral Tournament.
