Muleshoe ISD Superintendent Dr. R.L. Richards has announced that current Muleshoe High School Assistant Principal Greg Hill has been named Director of Operations and Instruction. Hill will replace Assistant Superintendent Dani Heathington, who plans to retire on June 30.

Now in his fourth year at MHS, Hill grew up in the Muleshoe area. He received his bachelor’s in business administration and management and his master’s in educational administration from Eastern New Mexico University in Portales.

In addition to working at several different levels of administration, Hill has taught business, accounting, economics and history, and coached various sports including baseball, basketball and football.

“I like being able to help people,” Hill said. “During my entire life, the people I respect most are or were in education, so it was a natural fit.”

On coming to MHS, Hill observed that the city and the school have a positive climate for students to learn and grow in.

“Especially during COVID, we had to learn through adversity, to find out where kids can grow, find out what kids need. Really, a lot of schools struggled. The fact that we have such a healthy school climate helped us deal with COVID,” he said. “The school’s great culture is a result of collaboration among all the stakeholders including students, parents, community and leadership on the school board.”

Hill points to the variety of activities available at the school as one of its strengths.

“We have shared values and a belief that kids need to be involved in variety of activities. A lot of people think of sports when they think of UIL, but between the band, ag, robotics, speech and debate and other strong academic programs, there’s so much for kids to be involved in at so many different levels, locally, regionally and at state,” Hill said. “Students have so many opportunities, more than schools in most states.”

As director of operations, Hill will have overall management of certain district operations and provide instructional and curriculum leadership.

“Mrs. Heathington is such a wonderful, quality person, a servant with such a great relationship with the school and the community,” Hill said. “We have a strong administrative team, and Mrs. Heathington did a great job of articulating what we were doing.”

“Mr. Greg Hill will be a great addition to the Muleshoe ISD Central Office,” Richards said in a statement. “No one could ever replace Mrs. Dani Heathington, but Mr. Hill and Mrs. Heathington are making a smooth transition to continue moving Muleshoe ISD in the right direction. Mr. Hill’s knowledge and wisdom will provide great support for Muleshoe schools in all areas of our organization.”
