Xi Omicron Xi and Zeta Rho chapters of Beta Sigma Phi service sorority held their annual Founder’s Day festivities Tuesday, April 13, at the Desert Rose to honor long-standing members and recognize a Woman of the Year from Muleshoe.

Twenty-six members and guests enjoyed Champaign punch provided by Pat Angeley while visiting. A lovely meal of green salad, cheese bread, bacon-wrapped chicken breast stuffed with dried beef, butter dill gold potatoes, with dessert of strawberry glazed pie and butter pecan cake catered by Kathy Embry and Chase Garlington followed. Derrell Embry helped with the serving.

Pat Angeley welcomed members and guests, after which Cindy Barrett gave the Beta Sigma Phi Grace. Char Phillips led members in the Founder’s Day Pledge and Alice Liles read the message from the International Office.

Sandi Chitwood announced the Woman of the Year, Janis Morrison, who was chosen to be recognized for her contributions to our community over the years.

Chapter Highlights from the past year were shared by Vicki Black for Zeta Rho and Brenna Burch for Xi Omicron Xi.

Cindy Barrett presented incoming officers for Zeta Rho, and Char Phillips announced incoming officers for Xi Omicron Xi. President of Zeta Rho will be Lynne Box, Vice-president, Sheila Stevenson; Secretary, Vicki Black; Treasurer, Pat Young; City Council Representatives, Cindy Barrett and Melba King. President of Xi Omicron Xi will be Char Phillips; Vice-president, Linda Wood; Secretary, Brenna Burch; Treasurer, Judy Davenport; City Council Representatives, Brenna Burch and Val McCamish.

A Member of the Year is chosen by each chapter for that member’s involvement with the sorority the past year. Cindy Barrett was chosen by Zeta Rho and Brenna Burch was chosen by Xi Omicron Xi.

Pat Young gave an update on Pennies from Heaven, a fund imagined by Jo Jinks when she was an active member of the sorority, to be shared when a member might be facing difficulties.

Members then took part in rituals to honor members of long-standing in the sorority. Melba King was recognized for sixty years of membership with the Diamond Circle ritual; Sharon Agee and Sherri Shipman were recognized for fifty years of membership with the Gold Circle ritual. Alice Liles, Judy Davenport, and Tisha Boehning were given the Order of the Rose for more than fifteen years of membership.

Linda Wood then led members in the Closing Ritual and the evening was adjourned.
