The city of Muleshoe is in the process of procuring a grant administrator for the HOME Program, which replaces older homes with new homes.

“In the long run, better housing improves the city,” said City Administrator Ramon Sanchez. “The city has built approximately 14 homes over the last five years.”

Bids for the grant administrator are due at City Hall June 9.

“Once we select a grant administrator, we start the application process for new homes,” Sanchez said.

The estimated cost of each home is $135,000, depending on changes to the market and the availability of funds.

“The city has a match on the cost,” Sanchez said. “Grants or loans available to the buyer can be anywhere from 7 to 15 percent of the total price.”

At the May 9 Muleshoe City Council meeting, the council considered and approved a motion awarding the construction bid for the HOME Program #1002804 to Build Kingdom, Lubbock, Texas, for addresses 518 E Ave G and 305 W 11th. Two of three homes were ready to be constructed, and paperwork needed to be completed on a third home.

“Those locations are already selected,” Sanchez said.
