High School football is around the corner and Muleshoe Athletics is ready to get started.

They released their 2022 football schedule for the varsity, junior varsity and junior high levels via Facebook July 15. The varsity schedule is a 13-week schedule with a bye week included in week 10. The junior varsity will play the same scheduled teams as varsity. Their regular season games will start before the varsity at 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. for the scrimmages.

Muleshoe varsity football will compete in two scrimmages – the first will be Aug. 12 against Dimmitt and the second is against Wellington the following Friday, Aug. 18.

The Mules open their regular season Aug. 26 with a rematch against a now out-of-district opponent, Littlefield. Last season, Muleshoe went on the road to Littlefield and came away with a close victory 38-36.

They continue on the road the following week against Lamesa. The Mules lost their previous matchup against Lamesa last year, 24-20.

The Mules come back home for their home opener and homecoming game Sept. 9 against Friona. In their matchup last year, Muleshoe lost 55-13.

The following week, Muleshoe will hit the road again to take on Tulia who they beat in their previous matchup last season 35-31 before coming home for the first of a two-game homestand.

The first of the two game homestand is against Abernathy Sept. 23. This game will be Muleshoe’s Mule Up Against Childhood Cancer game.

The latter half of the two-game stand comes in a playoff rematch from last season against Brownfield. Muleshoe won this matchup last season in a 21-17 victory.

Muleshoe opens up district play the next week on the road against Bushland Oct. 7 before going on their bye week. Last season, the Mules fell 44-13 in the home contest.

Following the bye week, Muleshoe comes back home for a contest against Amarillo River Road with a Pink Out theme for the game. In their previous matchup, the Mules won in a shootout 42-38 in a game that totaled almost 1,000 yards of offense, according to stats on MaxPreps.

Muleshoe will go back on the road for the last time in the regular season against newcomer to the district, Shallowater, on Oct. 27. The last time Muleshoe competed against Shallowater was in the 2019 season where they were defeated 62-24.

The Mules will close out their regular season at home against Dalhart. This game will be Muleshoe’s senior night as well as youth football night Nov. 4. Last year, the Mules easily took down Dalhart 61-16.
