Muleshoe travels on the road to Tulia Friday night following their homecoming win over Friona 39-21.

The Mules have hit their stride the past two games, winning both by a margin of at least 18 points. In last Friday’s game, Mule’s’ quarterback Sebastian Kirven made plays all over the field with his legs and arms. He completed over half of his 24 passes for 251 yards and four passing touchdowns. He added 120 yards on the ground and a rushing touchdown.

Coming into Friday, they see a tough matchup against a 2-1 Tulia squad that just came off a low-scoring defensive battle that ended with a game-winning field goal by Daniel Velazquez to lift them over Sanford Fritch 11-8.

Head coach Oscar Murga prides in having Tulia’s offense be balanced. Expect the Hornets to establish the run game to set up their passing game. Running back Damian Cedillo has been a steady rock for the Hornets rushing for almost six yards a carry. The Muleshoe defense will need to be ready for a physical game in the trenches.

Speaking on Tulia’s passing game, it is uncertain at the moment who the starting quarterback will be come Friday. Austin Bunn was the starter before suffering a throwing-related injury during their week two game against Brownfield. Sophomore David Molina took his place and had a rocky first start against Sanford-Fritch. According to Murga, the situation with Bunn will be monitored day-to-day.

This game will be a good test for Muleshoe as the pre-season play winds down and district is right around the corner. Muleshoe Head Coach Jason Richards did not respond to The Journal by press time.
