One man died and two others were injured in a two-vehicle crash Sunday (Sept. 18) afternoon just east of Muleshoe.

A preliminary report from the Texas Department of Public Safety notes a Chevrolet Silverado driven by 28-year-old Joshua Michael Mendoza of Muleshoe was traveling east on Highway 70 when it crossed the westbound lane and collided with a Honda Civic driven by Apolinario Raymundo, 44, of Muleshoe.

Raymundo’s vehicle, which was also carrying Domingo Ramos and Joslyn Naomi Catalina Rodriguez, both 19, also of Muleshoe, rolled before coming to rest in the barrow ditch.

Raymundo was later pronounced dead at the scene and his passengers were both transported to Muleshoe Area Hospital by EMS.

Mendoza was not injured.

The crash was reported at 5:24 p.m. on US 70 about seven miles east of Muleshoe. Conditions are listed as clear and dry with a posted speed limit of 75 miles per hour.

According to the DPS report, everyone involved except Raymundo were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.

Since this is a preliminary report, details could change as the investigation continues.
