Muleshoe took home the crown at the UIL 3A district 3 cross country meet Oct. 11 at Mae Simmons Park to qualify for the regional meet. 

In order to qualify for the regional meet, a team has to finish within the top three as a team. An individual can also qualify on their own if they place within the top ten finishers at the district meet.  

The Mules placed first out of a six-team field that included Denver City, Dimmit, Brownfield, Lamesa and Friona. They scored 49 points as a team with Denver City as the runner up with 61.  

Junior Yvette Benavides was the first Mule to cross the finish line, placing third overall in a time of 13:27.91. Sophomore Vida Mora was the next Mule to cross, finishing eighth in a time of 14:03.63. Senior Zabry Haseloff and Junior Alexa Estrada were the third and fourth scorers for the Mules. They finished in times of 14:12.87 and 14:25.78 respectively to finish 10th and 12th overall.  Senior Mikela Haseloff was the fifth and final scorer for the Mules as she crossed in a time of 14:39.17 to place 16th overall.  

At the junior varsity level, freshman Gracie Elizarraraz won the the junior varsity district meet with a time of 15:45.70 

Muleshoe did not have enough guys to score as a team to score for the men’s side. Freshman Colton Martinez was the lead finisher for the Mules, placing 16th overall with a time of 20:10.6 

The 3A region 1 meet is set for either Oct. 24 or 25 at Mae Simmons Park in Lubbock.
