Sudan vs. Crosbyton
After a slow first half, Sudan ran away with this game over Crosbyton 42-0. The first half only saw one score on a Trent Wilson run. What looked to be a more competitive game turned sideways however as in the third quarter, the Hornets rattled off three scores to quickly put the game out of reach.
The offense accounted for over 400 total yards, most of them primarily on the ground. Sudan was two yards shy of the 300 yard-mark in the contest. Running back Josue Cervera led the charge, rushing for 109 yards and two rushing scores in the contest. Wilson wasn’t far behind, rushing for 72 yards and two scores as well. He also completed 10 of 15 passes for 120 yards and a passing touchdown.
With the win on Friday, Sudan remains as the only team in the district with an undefeated district record at 3-0. The Hornets will look to guarantee a piece of the district championship with a win over Bovina next week. Bovina is coming off of their second straight win over Hale Center 32-14. The last time these two squads met, Bovina came out on top in a low scoring affair, 6-0.
Springlake-Earth vs. Petersburg
The Wolverines dominated in an important district win over Petersburg 61-16. With the win, Springlake-Earth has set themselves up in a good position to control their own destiny. The Wolverines will complete their final regular season game against Kress Friday night. A win for Springlake-Earth will earn them the district title outright. A loss however will allow Petersburg a chance to share the district championship with the Wolverines.
Muleshoe vs. River Road
The Mules bounced back with a win Friday over River Road 14-6. Keys plays from multiple Mules including an interception by Judas Reyes and a fumble recovery by Uriel Vasquez helped propel Muleshoe to their first district win on the year.
Quarterback Sebastien Kirven completed 10 of 12 passes for 186 yards and two scores. He also carried the ball 12 times for 37 yards. Daniel Sianez led the rushing attack for the Mules, rushing for 70 yards on 14 carries.
Next up for the Mules is a tough road matchup against Shallowater squad that has only lost one game so far this season. They are currently ranked 5th in the state for 3A division 1. Shallowater is coming off of a great win, knocking off a previously undefeated Bushland squad that now ranks 8th in the state.
