The Muleshoe Art Association enjoyed a road trip to Lubbock to visit the National Ranching Heritage Center for their November meeting on Tuesday, November 1.

Members and guests car pooled for the drive to Lubbock and were met by Dr. Robert Tidwell, Curator of Historical Collections, at the center located near the Texas Tech campus. Everyone loaded up on a trolley and drove through the grounds as Dr. Tidwell gave the history and interesting stories about the historical structures on display at the center. Members disembarked for a closer look at several of the structures, including a church and the Victorian-style Barton House, which had several things in common with the Janes Ranch House in the Muleshoe Heritage Center. All of the old buildings reflected life in the early days on ranches, homesteads, and life in general in this area of Texas.

After viewing some of the exhibits inside the main building, members left for lunch at River Smith’s Restaurant nearby. President Ann Johnson held an informal meeting and future plans were discussed. The December meeting will be the Christmas luncheon and gift exchange at the Santa Fe Depot at the Muleshoe Heritage Center where members will bring a covered dish and a gift.  Guests are welcome to attend as well. The meeting will begin at 11:30.
