The regular meeting of Muleshoe City Council took place at 5:30 p.m., Dec. 12, at City Hall. Present were Mayor Colt Ellis, Mayor Pro-Tem Earl Behrends and members Lupe Mendoza, Crystal Alercon and Gary Parker.
A motion to accept the minutes of the City Council meeting on Nov. 14 was seconded and unanimously approved.
A motion to receive the financial statement for the month ending Nov. 30, 2022, was seconded and unanimously approved.
In administrative reports:
a. The holidays are upon us. We encourage everyone to shop local.
b. The Muleshoe Chamber of Commerce Christmas Parade was held on the evening of Dec. 10. The theme was “Open Mule Open Sleigh.” City Manager Ramon Sanchez said he’d heard people comment that the event was successful.
c. Thank you to Bailey County Electric, Five Area, Xcel Energy and the Public Works Department for all their work on putting up the holiday decorations.
d. The city will hold the annual Christmas luncheon on Dec. 14 at noon at the City of Muleshoe Training Facility. Council members are invited.
In Mayor and Council remarks, Behrends announced that Five Area has donated a couple of cameras to be installed in the Senior Center.
“The place was broken into two or three weeks ago, and they’re trying to make it a little harder for people to do that, and they wanted to put in some cameras there along the entrances” he said. “So Five Area has very graciously agreed to donate two cameras and monitors and everything to the Senior Center, and I just wanted to tell Five Area how much we appreciate that, and it’s really nice to be in a small community where people look after each other.”
The Council went into Executive Session, Closed Session in Accordance with Vernon’s Texas Codes Annotated, Government, Section 551.072 Real Estate.
The Council later adjourned.
